Break free from what’s holding you down

There’s something better out there. You can feel it. And you want it – badly.

But like the horror movie character battling desperately to escape evil and reach the open door of a safe haven, you’re trapped. You can’t get there.

Starring in your own nightmare, you see where you need to be, but the quicksand binds you and sucks you down. The harder you try to move, the more you feel paralyzed, the more your hopes vanish into the mist.

While real-life situations may not seem as extreme, they can be every bit as intense. And what’s really out there even if you escape the quicksand? What happens when you regain the sensations and find your feet again?

Sometimes, inaction isn’t as frightening as the possibility of action.

Live Intentionally

You know you need to make changes in your life. And you fully intend to do it, but there always seems to be a bigger crisis at the moment.

You say you’ll get to it, but first, you have to – (you fill in the blank).

Or you say you’ll do it – tomorrow.

When it comes to taking care of ourselves in a healthy way, why do we always find excuses that add to the obstacles we already face?

The “Perfect” Trap of being busy

You’re always right in the middle of something (from something as little as the holidays to a big project at work, a family illness, the kids haven’t graduated from school), so you rationalize. You say you want to wait for the “perfect” time, plan, or circumstances.

But these rarely – if ever – exist.

No matter what you’re facing, deciding to put it off today only makes it harder tomorrow.

While depression, anxiety, fear, relationship issues, behavioral issues, and more may play a significant part in shaping who you are, you can manage and even overcome them.

But you need a plan and a supportive environment – where you are both safe and accepted – as you work things out.

Small Wins

And when you start the work you know you need to do, it’s easy to get discouraged if you don’t see results as quickly as you’d like. But even tiny movement is movement.

When it comes to creating lasting changes, celebrate the small wins – even those that may seem insignificant.

Can you commit to taking just a few minutes out of each day to begin to change? What small steps can you take today that will ultimately change your life?

Every time you pass one of those small milestones is an opportunity to rejoice and know that you’re one step closer to where you want to be.
